Recloose: Four To The Floor

The Detroit native delves into the depths of his current favourite tracks

Detroit native Recloose was famously signed to Planet E after he slipped a demo CD into the burger he was serving to label boss Carl Craig. Fortunately, Craig didn't bite into it and the rest is history. Despite now living in New York, after 13 years in New Zealand, his sound still bears the soulful techy edge that first brought him to the attention of the world thanks to tracks such as 'Get There Tonight' and 'Can't Take It'. Scoring himself a global smash in 2005 with 'Dust', featuring vocals from Joe Dukie of Fat Freddy's Drop, his recent 'Honey Rocks' EP for Will Saul's Aus showed him still in vintage form, the title track a haze of intertwining synth lines riding an irresistibly subby bassline.

Ahead of his appearance at the DJ Mag Sessions this Saturday 24th September, where he joins Amsterdam house duo Detroit Swindle and Brighton crew Wolf Music (label home to the likes Medlar and Bicep), Recloose – aka Matthew Chicoine – told us his current Four To The Floor essentials.

Skygaze- 'Airmax 90' (Riverette)

Multilayered, chuggy jazz house masterpiece; keeps you guessing from top to bottom, but you’ll never stop moving.

Felix- 'Leifur Feels Like' (Dirt Crew)

A real deep house builder- woozy, percussive, and funky all at the same time. The perfect lead cut for Dirt Crew’s 'Deep Love 100' compilation.

Adesse Versions - 'Devoted' (Toytonics)

A guilty pleasure, I can’t help myself. Not re-inventing the wheel here, but a great house nod to early ATCQ. One for all the b-boy house heads.

Bastien Carrara - 'Throwdown' (Rawthenticity)

Super dirty, distorted boogie house… you wouldn’t think those elements work together, but this track just made my neck ache.
