Five Ibiza Closing Party Anthems

Enjoy the sounds of the 2016 season at Egg Presents The Big Ibiza Reunion Party

As the UK experiences the final gasp of its traditional late blooming summer, the 2016 Ibiza season has almost wound down for yet another year.

It's an especially momentous moment for the island, with Space throwing its last ever closing Fiesta on Sunday. (Even the BBC were in on the coverage, listing the last ten tracks that Carl Cox played at his own Music is Revolution party.) Dewy-eyed clubbers of all generations come to pay their last respects to the iconic brand that had been serving up dance music since opening in 1989, the second summer of love. What it will become is now up to Ushuaïa, their rivals just across the road in Playa d'en Bossa, who will redevelop the site and had their own closing party, complete with 'VIP beds' in case it all got a bit too much, on Saturday.

This weekend Amnesia say goodbye, or at least au revoir, on Saturday 8th October with a line-up that includes a DJ renowned for his marathon stamina, Ricardo Villalobos. Get some sleep after its midday finish on Sunday, then you can also make Circoloco's closing party at DC10 on Monday 10th October. Having weathered reports that it too was going to have to close in 2016, expect an extended final hurrah from DJs and workers alike.

If you're not on the island, fear not. Egg presents The Big Ibiza Reunion Party, this Friday 7th October, gathers together some of the DJs who've been out in the Balearic sunshine, soaking up the atmosphere and the tracks that have been tearing up the dance floors. With Spaniard Dennis Cruz joined by Italy's Raffa Fl and UK duo Martin Ikin and Jess Bays, expect a crowd as cosmopolitan as anything overseas.

Ahead of the party, we picked out five of the biggest tracks from the 2016 season.

Låpsley - 'Operator (DJ Koze's Extended Disco Version)'

After the extended runaway success of 'XTC', DJ Koze has yet another hit on his hands with this subtle remix of rising XL vocalist Låpsley, drawn out over ten minutes to dance floor dynamite.

Secondcity & Manu Gonzalez - 'Play It'

At the other end of the spectrum, Secondcity & Manu Gonzalez's 'Play It' is an expertly realised tech-house DJ tool built around delayed vocals, a bumping bassline and plenty of rolling snare breakdowns for those heads down, ice cannons on full, moments.

Emanuel Satie - 'Come As You Are'

Despite being released in the cold, dark depths of February, Emanuel Satie's 'Come As You Are' has had the legs to make it through the summer as an island favourite. Tech-house roller number two, check.

Jack Master - 'Bang The Box (Slam Remix)'

The work of Jack Master, rather than Jackmaster, the '93 original of this was actually Richie Hawtin using an alias that tipped its cap in the direction of Chicago. Glaswegian duo Slam rework it into a stomping, bleepy beast for dark, smokey warehouses in the here and now.

Claude VonStroke - 'The Rain Break'

Hot off celebrating the tenth anniversary of 'Who's Afraid of Detroit?', Dirtybird boss CVS scores another hit with the contrasting 'Rain Maker'. A Kavinsky-esque slinky synth slow burner, its quirky sound and hooky distinctive vocoder vocals puts it at the head of the pack.
