Egg Residents Mix 03

Kyle E

Watching his older brother's involvement in the grime scene gave Kyle E a taste for music while still in his teens. It was filling in for a no show DJ, however, while working at Egg London doing sound and lighting that gave him his big break.

Impressing behind the turntables straight away, he immediately seized the opportunity with both hands. From touring Brazil alongside Anderson Noise to guesting on Christian Smith's Tronic Radio Show, playing the final ever Trade to becoming A&R for Egg London's forthcoming label, What Came First, Kyle’s impressive techno-leaning tastes resonate hugely with the dance floor.

Furthering his position as a Saturday night resident, Kyle's moved into production, releasing 'Illusion' on Familia Records last year. In a sign of his growing stature, this track was picked up and signed to John Digweed’s ‘Live On South Beach’ compilation. With a live show in the works,  and sets at Sisyphos in Berlin and at ADE this year, 2017 promises to be Kyle’s biggest year to date. Check his Residents Mix after our interview below.

Can you remember your first time coming to Egg? What were your initial thoughts?

The first time I came to egg was many moons ago, back in the Breakfast at Egg days. It was great. I remember being impressed by the residents back then, JB, Nils, Lady Bianca, Dominique Danielle & La Gosse.

How did you manage to become a resident?

I was working at Egg for a few years, mainly involved in lighting, sound and production,l which meant a lot of hours at the club, especially at weekends, which meant I really got to know the sound of the club. One week a DJ didn't turn up, I covered their set and have been playing at the club ever since.

How does being a resident differ from being a guest at another club?

Knowing that everything is top spec and professional, from the sound, lighting, crowd & staff.

How would you define your current sound?

London 2016.

What is your favourite room to play?

Tough question! It always changes every couple of months, but the at the moment it's the new main room.

What is your favourite Egg London memory?

There are too many funny memories over the last eight years at Egg. One of my favourite memories was definitely the Trade 25th birthday last October.

What has been your stand out set at Egg so far this year?

Every week is a stand out set, as every week is a different musical challenge. Some of the standouts this year so far have been playing alongside Sven Väth, Chris Liebing and Solomun. Also some of the more intimate sets at Paradox on a Tuesday night.
