Starters:

I’m going to be flitting around to various eateries for each course, so first off it’s a magic carpet ride to the atmospheric Souks of Istanbul for starters.

Midye Tava which is fried battered mussels on skewers served with tartar sauce is one of Turkeys most popular street food dishes. I love seafood and had never had mussels served this way before, plump, crispy and delicious, with a piquant creamy sauce.

Mains:

For the main course we are winging our way to The Giggling Squid Thai restaurant in Wimbledon.

I love the robust flavours of Thai food , and their Bold Krachai Prawns really get my juices flowing. Wok fried and massive, the prawns are served shell on in a sauce with slices of karachai & galangal, the citrusy/piney flavour of which blew me away the first time I tried it. A saving of jasmine rice (along with a starter of their perfectly tender salt & pepper squid) is a meal I could eat every day.

Desert:

For dessert we are going to The Giant Club in Axminster, which is close to my home in Dorset. It’s my favourite local, the chef Gideon always surprises with interesting and unusual ingredients.

My main motivation for ending the culinary journey here is to enjoy one (or 3) of their amazing Corpse Reviver No2 cocktails (Gin, dry vermouth, cointreau, fresh lemon juice & absinthe). Also it’s always a 6 course set menu, so you get 2 desserts as it were.

A sorbet of white peach and cider  served with a shot of honey fragranced quince vodka from a most unusual shaped decanter- The Mannequin Pis (Belgium’s little pissing man) I think you can imagine from where the liquor flows!

Finally a creamy and fluffy baked plum & dandelion tiramisu, light and tangy is the perfect finale (and leaves room for perhaps one more Corpse Reviver…)
