The Advent: Four to the Floor

Cisco tells us his four classics for the disco

One of the pioneers of the UK dance scene, The Advent, aka Cisco Ferreira, has gone from studio engineer to celebrated pioneer of electro and techno. Partnered with Mr G in the '90s, headlining festivals such as Tribal Gathering and touring the world, he's now solo but as prolific as ever.

Joining Johannes Heil and Markus Suckut at Sabajaq this weekend (ticket and info here), he delved into his expansive knowledge of dance classics to bring us four that are guaranteed to fill the floor every time...

Vapourspace - 'Gravitation Arch of Ten' (1994)

This was one of those classic records that will for me stand the test of time. The early '90s was a period of new discovery in the art of techno and Mark Gage hit the right spot with this one... A great intro record but also great to finish the night, this brings back some great early warehouse memories.

No Smoke - 'Koro Koro' (1989 Mixed by Bang The party/Cliff Whyte)

A time when London & UK were making a mark on the scene and UK based collective Bang The Party were the first UK act to break through in the USA and put out 'Release Your Body' on Transmat Records. They had a few hits back then, but this one really was the first time that you heard tribal vibes in house. I remember Clink Street/RIP nights with Kid Bachelor and Colin Favour (R.I.P.) dropping this one.

Reese & Santonio - 'Rock to the Beat' (1989)

Another classic from the first wave of Detroit artists who pioneered this sound and this was definitely one of our soundtracks of the late '80s period. Very moody with dark haunting strings, proper techno brain wash... Yes!

Drexciya - 'You Don’t Know'

One of the best electro acts to materialise. With strong roots in Detroit’s electro creative clan Underground Resistance based at the UR control centre, these cats were sending out these sonic messages of future visions!
