Get to know: PAWSA

We caught up with the tasteful tech house don to see what he’s up to at the moment and his thoughts on London’s current electronic scene…

PAWSA is in a good place. The latest accolades from the London based producer include the well-received ‘Groovy Cat’ release on his own PAWZ imprint alongside a heavy but rewarding tour schedule covering Privilege Ibiza, Nox Madrid, Paradiso Amsterdam and lots more in the last twelve months.

A relentless work ethic has seen him curate his own nights and material on his co-founded Solid Grooves Records label with the longtime sonic comrade, Michael Bibi, while also pushing forthcoming productions on his Solid Grooves Raw sub-label. Returning to Egg LDN on Friday 2nd March for a whopping six-hour set, we caught up with the tasteful tech house don to see what he’s up to at the moment and his thoughts on London’s current electronic scene…

Where does the alias ‘PAWSA’ stem from?

I knew I wanted my alias to have 5 letters in it, and to end with an ‘A’. Then one day I was watching David Attenborough's 'Africa' and saw this leopard strolling about and was like wow unreal! I knew then I wanted it to have something to do with big cats, so I started sending loads of pics of jaguars & leopards to my friend and she said “PAWSA BEST NAME EVA” and I said "I like PAWSA”, so I started a Soundcloud with the picture as a jaguar sitting in a tree.

Why did you set up the ‘Groover Essentials’ series?

I wanted to share some ideas that I was having at the time, I felt like making these little quotes as reminders to myself and then share them with everyone. Your social media platforms show visits to landmarks across the world from the Sydney Opera House to the famous ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign.

Where in the world has been the most memorable destination to play at so far?

Probably at an afterparty in the hills of Medellín with Reelow. After the party we all bundled into cars and drove through the winding hills, ending up at a villa overlooking the entire city, was unreal! You’re based in London at the moment.

Do you think the electronic music scene has changed drastically since you first started out here?

Yeah, it keeps getting better! There are so many good young artists in London now that are making really good tunes, and lots of good clubs that are really helping push the scene forward.

Tell us about your most recent release ‘Colours’ on your PAWZ imprint? What was your approach to making the track?

I wanted to make a tune about all the different colours and how much I love them - https://soundcloud.com/pawsa/colours

Are you a hardware hoarder?

No, I probably will in the future though then my studio will look like a real studio rather than just a computer lol.

Leave us with three tracks you’re really into at the moment and why?

George Marshman - Never Stop

Eddy M - Can I Really

Reelow - Amatour Provocateur

Cos they are all solid tunes!
