Egg Residents Mix 02

Ireen Amnes

Egg London are super excited to announce rising Latin techno siren Ireen Amnes as the latest DJ to join the resident DJ crew. Schooled in techno, minimal and acid, as well as the tougher, techier side of house, last year Ireen scooped the Emerging Ibiza Wildcard Winner prize, earning her a guest slot at Space Ibiza alongside Carl Cox.

Following up this momentum in the studio, her multi-instrumentalist skills have seen her produce tracks for Berlin-based Upperberry and she is included on Coco Cole's 'Say Yes: Volume II’ compilation. As well as this, she runs her own roving techno party Under My Feet. With new releases in the pipeline for the debut Egg London compilation and an EP already in the works, Ireen’s powerful sets guaranteed her return to Ibiza this summer with appearances at Sankeys for Unusual Suspects and Space again for Carl Cox.

Can you remember your first time coming to Egg? What was your initial thoughts?

It was back in 2011, I wasn’t a big raver back then but I remember having the best time of my life. The energy and vibe was unique. After that night, EGG became my home during most weekends.

How did you manage to become a resident?

I got to do a late closing set at the Terrace for one of the DJ Mag nights. I went quite heavy and my set got a great response, and then resident Kyle E joined me for a back to back. When the crew at Egg  talked about getting a new resident on board my name came up in the discussion as some of them had seen that set.

In a male dominated industry, how important is it for women such as yourself to have a residency?

Extremely important, as there’s no reason why it should be male dominated. Every time I play, girls always come up to me saying that they love to see a woman behind the decks for once, and my aim is to be an inspiration to other female DJs and women in general. What’s important is your talent. I hope that this will set an example for other clubs.

How would you define your current sound?

A journey of emotions. It can be very calm and delicate or angry and hard. There is always a dark and melancholic aspect to my performances.

What is your favourite room to play at Egg?

I am in love with the Terrace. The low ceiling made of bricks, the darkness, the lights and the sound; there is something special about that room. The new main room is also great.

What is your favourite Egg London memory?

My debut gig as resident. I remember being so nervous but at the same time very excited. Becoming the new resident at such an important club in London is a huge achievement for me.

What has been your stand out set at Egg so far this year?

Fidelity Kastrow at Berlin Berlin (April edition) closing the Terrace. Her music selection together with her incredible mixing skills really got me. There is always something special and different about her performances.
