The Spirit of Warung: Leo Janeiro

Warung resident shares ten tracks with us that have remained the spirit of the renowed beach club since he first stepped through its doors in 2009…

Arguably one of the most outstanding DJ’s to emerge from Brazil’s close-knit electronic music scene, Leo Janeiro’s taste and technical ability earned him multiple DJ residences throughout Brazil, but it’s his most recent residency at Warung Beach Club that has taken Janeiro’s sonic career to the next level.

With an extensive sound covering house and techno through the ages, Janeiro has become a solid fixture at Warung and has supported the likes of Laurent Garnier, Gui Boratto, La Fleur and lots more over the last few months.

His ability to remain unpredictable and engaging is one of the reasons why Janeiro has cropped up on our calendar over the years, and suitably enough, the Brazilian returns on June 16th for a Warung Showcase at the club with Thugfucker and fellow Warung resident, Eli Iwasa.

Digging into an impressive library of house, techno, electro and everything in between, Janeiro shares ten tracks with us that have remained the spirit of Warung since he first stepped through its doors in 2009…

Laurent Garnier - Doctor C’est Chouette

One of my favourite songs and perfect for the sunrise in the Temple @ Warung!

Kerry Chandler - Bar A Thym

This is always part of my set list and without a doubt part of my DNA. Don’t think I’ll ever stop playing this track.

Underworld - Two Mouths Off

During one of my gigs at Warung when I wasn’t a resident yet, I finished my set with this song and got an incredible reaction. It’s one of my tracks of all time.

Midland - Final Credits

In my last set in the temple, it was the way I found to say "Goodbye" until next time to the party faithful - another special song!

Leo Janeiro, Mumbaata - Blaze

It was the first place I played this track before having a label interested in signing it. It was a perfect platform for the right audience and has since been signed by Get Physical Music.

Ian Pooley - CompuRhythm’ (Dixon 4/4 Treatment)

As a resident DJ we often warm up for great artists and I've always been a fan of Ian Pooley and this Dixon Remix is sensational. This track has always been one of my favourites.

Maceo Plex - Can’t Leave You

When it was released in 2011 it was one of the tracks of summer here. It also highlights a special moment of the club as it was the year that I started my residency.

Sasha - Xpander

I never played this track but I remember that in one of Sasha's performances in the Temple, he simply hypnotised the dance floor with this track and it was an unforgettable moment.

Todd Terje - Inspector Norse

After a lovely evening at the Garden (another dance floor of the club), I realised that I was getting to the end of the set and this was the last track of my set on a beautiful Sunday morning and everyone was so happy.

Darin Epsilon - Niflheim

This track is recent and reflects the spirit of the club and it reminds me where the club is located, near the sea and next to a large green area. It’s just been released on Warung Records and is part of my current sets.
