Pride Matters

Once upon a time, Pride was about trying to break free and trying to be accepted. Now it’s about celebrating and accepting no matter what age, size, shape, sexuality or colour you are.

If you listen to BBC Radio 1 on Friday night, it’s predominately house music. But where does house music come from? With an influx of up-and-coming talent and an overwhelming digital market of new electronic music available at our fingertips, it’s easy to forget that most of the tracks we hear today have had at least some influence from the New York and Chicago queer community of the early 70's. Coming up to the annual Pride celebrations here in London, it's safe to say we can celebrate being different from then up to now.

Once upon a time, Pride was about trying to break free and trying to be accepted. Now it’s about celebrating and accepting no matter what age, size, shape, sexuality or colour you are.

As a club with roots in London’s gay scene since 1990 - in the form of Turnmill’s Trade parties - Egg has always been an advocate for London Pride, both on the official week itself and throughout the rest of the year.

Introducing Berlin Berlin back in the early naughties was a turning point for the club, bringing a whole new crowd of LGBT+ clubbers through our doors and a host of Berlin based artists at the forefront of Berlin’s  unconventional scene to take the reigns of the venue for one night. With a no camera policy, our clubber’s privacy and desire to be free was and always has been a priority for every Berlin Berlin party, allowing Berlin Berliner’s to truly express themselves.

With Lady Starlight billed to play an exhilarating live set to mark our Berlin Berlin Pride special in the most inebriated way possible, the queer collective Buttons will take over our Middle Floor alongside a plethora of authentic performers and hosts, welcoming each and every raver through our doors.

Looking on to more Pride specials for years to come at the club, it’s important to remember that no matter what your sexual orientation is, you’re welcome at Egg. Be proud of who you are because in the words of Ru Paul, ‘If you can’t love yourself how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?’ #PrideMatters ❤
