Sometimes in our lives; a place, a party, a record is so perfect, powerful or popular, so unique or utterly awe-inspiring, it can come to define an era for us.  When we look back at that magical time in our past, it's that one particular thing that comes to mind.  And it was only recently, while reflecting deeply on the tragic loss of our dear friend Pink Lloyd, it struck me that a person can do this as well.

When I reminisce about the last ten or so years – the music, the dance floors, the weird and wonderful (and sometimes just plain wrong) after-parties we discovered -  the memory of Lloyd is engrained into it all. His spirit and personality all-encompassing of the times.  And for me - and I strongly believe, for many others - he does truly define an era.

It would be impossible to imagine the number of people Lloyd reached out and touched over those countless nights out (and the days!).  Nights he spent having the time of his life in the place he seemed to belong – the dance floor.  His love of music, lust for life and limitless will to be weird were traits that enthused you, pulled you towards him, and made you want to be part of his world.  And with Lloyd being the beautifully genuine and friendly guy he was, he was only too happy to welcome you in, whoever you were.

Lloyd seemed to live life as if it were a celebration, and so it is only fitting that we honour him by celebrating, with a day of music, dancing, and coming together of friends old and new, at one of his favourite haunts – Egg.  A specially selected line-up of DJs will play Disco, Funk, House & Techno, and all money raised will go towards a charity which Lloyd believed in -  Groove School Community Projects – a group that runs DJ and Music Technology workshops for under-privileged children in London.

Not only did Lloyd love to be the life and soul of the party but he equally liked to be the conductor. His love of music stemmed from his school boy days and he was an avid and keen music collector and purveyor of the weird, rare and wonderful :) He loved finding rare vinyl and could often be found with his head poking out between the aisles of Phonica Records and the like. Much like his character his musical tastes were eclectic and like a glitzy Westend show his mixes were a aural delight full of pizazz and oomph with surprises along the way!

Lloyd or Mr Pink as he was more widely known was a gregarious gent and people naturally gravitated towards him….it didn’t matter if you had known him 10 years or 10 minutes he gave you his all and you loved him instantly and his memory will live on in all that had the fortune to meet him….

I will miss you Lloydy!! Love always Ms Menthal x

"The first time I met Lloyd was in the garden at Egg, at a party called Jaded. We struck it off immediately! The same "silly buggers" sense of humour, I guess. I remember we were dancing one minute, then I felt Lloyd tap me on my shoulder and ask me if I wanted a beer. I turned round, and he'd disappeared, but his shoes were still on the floor, neatly arranged as if he was reserving his space. He was one funny fucker, and we built up hundreds of golden memories over the next few years. He was kind, caring, compassionate, tolerant. He was quite unique. I know I will always remember Lloyd. Unfortunately, he won't be back for his shoes…’  - Haydn Redfarn

‘Although our musical tastes varied in places I will always have fond memories of going back-to-back with Lloyd, and Woolley, into the early hours. We also enjoyed DJ'ing too... Never saw him angry, or heard him say a bad thing about anyone; a testament to a good guy." - Jasi Bhopal

"I use to love Lloydy popping over to my parents house on a Saturday afternoon many moons ago. We used to compare what vinyl we had bought that week and then record a mix tape. Yes, that's how long ago it was as we were using tapes!!! There was also a time when we drove down to Brighton Saturday evening to the Zap club. Me thinking lets book somewhere to stay so we booked a Youth Hostel as it was cheap. Before we knew it, it was Sunday 8am and we were still partying with some students in their flat without any sleep! I can still hear Lloyd laughing whilst writing this. A brilliant mate and truly missed by all. Long live Pink Lloyd!!!!!" - Damon Singh

"One silly funny memory of Lloyd was dancing away in egg and Lloyd appeared and whispered in my ear "do u want a screw" I looked at him and he was completely straight faced and I said " what" thinking I hadn't heard him correctly "do you want a screw" I didn't know what to make of it.......and then he grabbed my hand and put a little metal screw in it!!! Then off he bopped!!! So many funny crazy loved times with a true gent!!! You never knew what would happen or what he would do next which meant every moment with him was magical!!! Hope your continuing to spread all the joy you gave us here, up there mate!!! Your truly missed!!! Xxxxx" - Jenny Grogan

"I thought I was in charge of fancy dress and general party silliness, but when I was making a collage of photos for his 40th last year (collecting loads of photos him from friends), it became apparent that he was the undisputed master, and I had to bow down to him! One thing I've also noticed recently from looking through photos is that in the majority of them he has his arm(s) around the person/people in the photo with him, and he always looks like he's having the best time he possibly can be at that moment." - Fraser Leggat

"I'm not sure if anyone else remembers this, but once Lloyd actually pretended to die in the middle of Egg garden. He collapsed on the floor and stopped breathing with his eyes wide open. Loads of people gathered round him obviously distressed and shouting for help. Then out of nowhere some little Asian fella yelled, 'Stand back, I'm a pharmacist!’ . When Lloyd jumped up shouting 'I've been resurrected!' half the people were laughing and half were having a go at him. Still one of the funniest and fucked up things I've ever seen. Who else would honestly do that." - Luke Holloway

"Anyone that knew Lloyd would probably remember him walking into a room with a big beaming smile and he would probably be in some ridiculous attire. He was always up for silly fun and a bloody good party. That's what I loved most about him, he was always silly and always smiling. He was absolutely passionate about music and would always be gagging to get on the decks, the problem was trying to get him off them. I've lost my best friend and my boyfriend but I will always remember him with a big beaming smile on my face, as how can you not when you think of Lloyd. He would be so overwhelmed with all the love and support that people have shown and he would want everyone to have silly fun and a fabulous party. I love and miss you very much baby Lynsey xxx" - Lynsey Culley

"Don't know what day of the week I'm coming back, whether it'll be am or pm but I do know that I'll be home between 2 and 2!" - Lloyd Wakeman
