Get to know: Layton Giordani

Returning to the club this weekend with Deborah De Luca and Weska for Familia’s May instalment, we caught up with the man himself...

Looking back over the last few years with Layton Giordani, it’s fair to say the young producer has become one of the most exhilarating acts in techno since breaking through in 2015 via a coveted Output residency in his native city of New York.

Following a flow of successive releases on Intec and Truesoul, Giordani went on to form a lasting relationship with the main spearhead of big room techno; Adam Beyer. Since then, Giordani has become a solid affiliate of Beyer’s iconic Drumcode imprint and has travelled extensively with his trusty library of innovative, infectious and high impact techno productions.

Returning to the club this weekend with Deborah De Luca and Weska for Familia’s May instalment, we caught up with the man himself to see how exactly it all began with Drumcode and what he’s up to at the moment after a hectic touring schedule covering the U.S…

You’re in the midst of touring the USA at the moment, how’s it all going? Any highlights so far?

Yes i’ve just finished! So many states I wouldn’t expect to see techno thriving but it’s amazing. We finished in Los Angeles and that show was beyond words. simply amazing. I quite liked all sights to see. A lot of amazing mountains.

Tell us about the beginning of your relationship with Drumcode? You’ve got a solid discography on the imprint, as well as joining multiple Drumcode line-ups and festivals over the years?

Drumcode is and always will be a dream come true relationship for me. Adam is a great friend and mentor. My first official release with the label was my album. Drumcode is more than just a label really, it’s family. We all get along and have a pretty strong bond. The line-ups and Drumcode events are amazing as well. Always top notch gigs.

You recently posted a picture of the items you never leave in New York whilst on tour. What about the items you’ve lost along the way? What did you lose and how did you deal with it?

Oh man. I’d lose my head if it wasn't attached. I can’t tell you the kind of things I lost because there is so many. USB’s, clothes, hair gels, toothbrushes, headphones, cables… you name it, I’ve lost it. I will admit though after the years I’ve become more safe with my things and developed my own rituals to check before I leave the room and put things in certain places. Luckily every time I lost something I shrug it off and learn my lesson quickly!

Regarding production, what have you got in store for 2018?

Although I can’t announce yet, I have some very special collaborations and solely original tracks in the pipeline. To say the least, I think everyone will be really surprised to see with whats to come this summer!

We just had our 15th birthday on Saturday night. We’ve been around for quite some time and you’ve been part of our booking agenda throughout. What’s your most significant memory of playing at Egg LDN?

Happy birthday EGG! Every show has been great. My recent show where I played the Middle Floor was amazing. I love the lighting and the deep dark atmosphere to it. It’s really proper! I usually stay long, enjoy some laughs and the company of my UK friends!
