Ahead of his set at Sabajaq on December 19th, we chatted to Mark Reeve about his best memories from the last year, his biggest musical influences and much more…

Tell us where you are in your career at the moment, is there anything exciting that fans can expect in the coming months and in 2016?

Yes, there are a lot of lovely things coming up. I am releasing my new EP “Run Back” in December on Adam Beyer’s label Drumcode. Then in Jan/Feb 2016 there will be a track coming out called “Exodus” on a Drumcode compilation alongside Adam Beyer himself and others.

With 2015 drawing to a close, what were your best memories and experiences of the last year?

The best memory must be playing in China! Although it was quite strange at the start, I learned to love the city of Shanghai, such an amazing place. But also making friends in Miami in the USA was amazing!

You were “infected” by electronic music at just 12 years old, how were you introduced to this type of music?

Well to start with, I was always a big fan of Duran Duran and Depeche Mode, then going on to the Prodigy and Carl Cox! After my move to Germany, others such as Sven Väth were also my heroes.

Who would you say are your main influences in the music industry and why?

It has to be Sven Väth! He has always influenced me in everything I do, plus he gave me the chance to become a Cocoon member in 2011. I will never forget the moment when he played my first record at the Time Warp, twice. Adam Beyer was also a big influence on me back in the day with Drumcode. I still have all the old vinyl at home and will always remember buying them back in the day!

Talk us through your typical workflow…

Well when it comes down to the workflow I don’t really have one. I just sit in the studio sometimes and do what I feel. If that means sitting there for hours on one stem so be it. I really want the best out of my sessions and ideas.

Which DJs and Producers currently impress you? Who should we be looking out for?

I have to say Adam Beyer’s set at Amnesia this year was really impressive! Plus at the party I met up with all my pals like Sam Paganini, Paul Ritch and Daniel Stefanik. It was so much fun - an unforgettable night.

Egg seems to be a recurring venue for you, what is it that always brings you back?

Egg is such a special club for me. The crowd is great, but I also love the staff to pieces. I have never had any upsets and they are all such lovely people. It’s a blessing to keep coming back and to be involved in such a nice atmosphere. Feels like home!

Catch him playing on 19th of December at Sabajaq alongside Monika Kruse, Kate Simko, dubspeeka, Wax Wings and many more.
