Under The Radar: Marco Faraone

Faraone shares five burgeoning artists from the motherland...

What is it about Italy and techno? The country has been responsible for exporting some of the finest electronic producers and DJs to an internationally renowned level, allowing the likes of Marco Carola, Enrico Sangiuliano and Sam Paganini and lots more to reach astronomical heights on the global dance music soundscape.

Tuscany-born producer Marco Faraone is another addition to the extensive list of Italian artists who are currently following flourishing careers as sound-creators, selectors and label head honchos. He’s been immersed in all types of music since the 80’s and since then, Faraone has gone on to become one of the most versatile and in-demand artists over the last decade.

Gracing the decks in long-running establishments like Spybar, Amnesia, Tenax and a host of Italian clubbing institutions, Faraone touches down on London soil with Victor Ruiz and Rudosa also taking the reigns of our Middle Floor this Saturday. In true Italian spirit, Faraone shares five burgeoning artists from the motherland who are undoubtedly ones to watch this year ahead of his Egg LDN return…

BOSTON 168

I met these guys during the amazing ‘after season’ festival in Switzerland, of course, I had heard some of their tunes before, but I had never seen them play live, and honestly, I was impressed. I love the way they mix their sounds with amazing atmospheric and melodic acid lines, building an incredibly dark techno journey.

I have big respect to who’s playing REAL live sets, carrying all that equipment every weekend, that has to be plugged and unplugged at every show. These guys have big passion and you’ll definitely hear more about them to come.

MATTIA TRANI

The only Italian artist who released an official mix for Underground Resistance. Mattia is about to release his new EP on my label UNCAGE, together with a massive remix by Donato Dozzy, a true Italian legend and master. Mattia has a very cool and raw techno sound, heavily influenced by the old school Detroit scene. I would define it scratchy and minimal at the same time, very effective. He also manages a great label called Push Master Discs, a platform who released music from artists including Ben Sims, DJ Rush and Steve Rachmad aka Sterac. You have to check his music and his labels progress!

HERTZ COLLISION

Firstly, Francesco and Pietro are two close friends and definitely a great duo musically. The guys are also from Florence and started to collaborate when they were 17 and have never stopped since. Now, their style is a perfect symbiosis and can be characterised by trippy rhythms and emotional modular melodies.

They are really focused on creating something unexpected with every release, and I love that. They have had releases on some high-profile labels Invite Choice’s Records, Pole Group, Frozen Border and Dynamic Reflection, and soon on EarToGround. I decided to team up with them recently for our collaboration release ‘Solar Shade’ which came out on Uncage a few weeks back. I really believe in their potential and they have my full support!

MALANDRA JR aka BLACK STONE

Such a versatile producer, Malandra is one of the most interesting new names around at the moment. A real musician. With releases already on Cocoon and Diynamic, he just signed new music on the legendary R&S Records under his moniker Black Stone, a very important step for his music. He has an amazing polyphonic sound, very influenced by great melodies and rhythms. He always wants to create climax moments and emotional bridges I his music and he’s one of the best at doing that, in my opinion. I have heard all of his new material and WOW – can’t wait to see it being released.

HERVA

I have been a big fan of this guy since the day I discovered his music. Already he has solid roots with labels like Delsin, Planet Mu and Italian label Bosconi Records, Herva is definitely one of the best producers from Italy and an artist we can be very proud of. I can’t really define him as a ‘newcomer’ because he’s been producing music for many years, but I couldn't miss his name from this list. I think now I must let more people know about his profile and get them to follow him, such a genuine person and an incredible talent.

I guess, I would personally describe him as the Italian Aphex Twin…. It’s so nice to see that Italy is producing so many talented musicians and artists, and Herva is one that doesn't follow trends, it’s just pure passion and you can hear that in his music. Check it out, you’ll fall in love!
