Egg LDN's Director Laurence Malice spoke about Berlin and Bowie and how they influenced him creatively in his life:

"I had followed David Bowie in all his different incarnations...Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardurst, Major Tom, Aladdin Sane, but his Berlin experiences and music at the 'Low' and 'Heroes' period really spoke to me. Bowie's ambiguity and creativity touched me from a very young age and helped me get through my rite of passage into adult life. His tenderness, understanding, flamboyance and mastery of the arts marshalled me and a generation like myself to create things for ourselves going forward. I first visited Berlin with a girl friend a few years after Bowie had lived there with Iggy Pop, visiting the places they hung out at which made a lasting impression on my mind, and I really felt inspired by the city. By sheer coincidence whilst we were there we bumped into Bowie's amazing friend, Romy Haag, who took us under her/his wing and took us to all kinds of clubs and parties, and really opened our eyes to the nightlife. Berlin and Bowie continue to inspire me and I created the Berlin Berlin party in homage to them, and this week's event will be more even more special and poignant in the light of today's sad news."
