Selected Cuts: Mark Knight

Ahead of this Saturday's Toolroom Live, founder of the label Mark Knight shares fives tracks which he’s currently feeling at the moment...

It’s been a while since Toolroom Live took over the club and to mark their return, label boss Mark Knight is back with a troop of artists from the popular imprint on 12th December. Following another huge year for the label, Weiss dropped ‘Feel My Needs’ which was rinsed by both the Toolroom family and a plethora of well-known names in the industry from Nick Grimshaw to Carl Cox.

Illyus & Barrientos have possibly had their most prolific year to date. Shows from Toronto to Brooklyn to Belfast have allowed Ivan and Illyus to road test new sounds on far-flung territories, allowing them to expand their name across the pond. Following a well-received remix of Calvin Harris’ ‘So Serious’ which came out Toolroom earlier this year, 2019 is certainly looking positive for the pair.

Having welcomed new blood to the team in the form of Wheats, the young producer from Portsmouth is on the rise, earning support for his U.S House influenced tracks from the likes of Pete Tong and Kerri Chandler.

Having had their eye on Leftwing:Kody for quite some time, Toolroom have added the promising London based duo to the bill at the club who are set to make their debut for our last Toolroom Live event of 2018 on December 1st. Ahead of the night, founder of the label Mark Knight shares fives tracks which he’s currently feeling at the moment, all of which have impacted his sets in the last few months and shine a light on the current Toolroom roster…

Wheats - Original Rebel

Everything this guy gives us is absolutely top drawer, and I've been hammering this since he sent the original demo version. Now it's all finished and getting support from Matthias Tanzmann, Yousef, Nic Fanciulli etc. He's probably my no.1 producer at the moment and is going to have a sensational 2019. If your coming to Egg make sure you check him out live he is equally good behind the decks as he is in the studio.

Siege - I’ve Been

This guy is another one who can do no wrong in my book. This is one I’ve been playing since summer and we finally cleared the sample, so I'm really happy it's getting a release. It's amazing to find new producers like Siege and Wheats who have such ability in the studio and are actually pushing themselves rather than following the tried and tested formula. They're already so accomplished for such young producers, it's really inspiring.

Mark Knight & Danny Howard - You Can Do It Baby

I’ve been good mates with Danny for a while now; he even comes down and plays for our football team Toolroom FC. He is a pretty decent midfielder to be fair and of course, he's played at a bunch of our parties too. We got in the studio and got together a load of different ideas. We wanted to write two tracks that stood for both of us which is a tricky thing when it's your first collaboration together but I think we nailed it. We are both super happy with the EP and the A-side is top 10 on Beatport right now, expect to hear both of these at Egg.

Matt Smallwood & Andy MacDougall - Give It Up

Matt's the Head of A&R at Toolroom and also an exceptional producer. I played this at Output last week at it went down a treat. It's a perfect transition record for switching up the tone from warmup towards more peak time - mucho props Matt you have smashed this!

Midnight Star - Midas Touch (Jamie Lewis Remix)

This is a couple of years old, but it's one I pull out occasionally. I actually started my Mixmag Lab set with it the other week, always gets an incredible reaction. I have been inundated with messages asking me what it is… Jamie has a nailed a timeless remix of a classic record.
