Mix of the Week: Photonz

Like his namesake, Photonz, aka Marco Rodrigues, is proving to be an elemental force in the world of Portuguese dance music. Schooled in the early sounds of Chicago and Detroit, and growing up in the shadow of Lisbon's '90s boom, his One Eyed Jacks label has been forging a unique sound all of its own since 2010 - as sampled when he played at Sabajaq at Egg in April last year.

Alongside this Photonz runs Radio Quantica with partner Violent, an internet station based in Lisbon that showcases the best of Portuguese talent and extends beyond just music to social, philosophical and political discussion too.

A regular guest in Paris, this week sees him drop a new mix for the city's Dimensional Waves, a podcast series dedicated to the legacy of electro and the 808. There's no track list, so just lock, pop, and enjoy some uncompromising machine funk beamed straight from the future to save the past.
