Meet The Sabajaq Residents

Warboy, Maze & Masters & Joe Roberts provide the support for Jay Lumen, Pleasurekraft, Kim Ann Foxman, Catz 'N Dogz and more this Saturday

Starting its life in East London before relocating to Egg LDN, Sabajaq currently brings it's mix of underground techno and house to heart of King's Cross every two months. This Saturday 29th welcomes Jay Lumen and Pleasurekraft to take command of the main room, while Kim Ann Foxman and Catz 'N Dogz headline the Terrace.

Ahead of Sabajaq we asked all three residents - Warboy, Maze & Masters and Joe Roberts - for a rundown of their current favourite tracks to take you from the pre-party through the club to the after party...

WARBOY

JW publicity Apr 15

Recently releasing his 'Overcast City' EP on Egg's What Came First label, which featured a remix from Drumcode's most recent signing Vinicious Honorio, Warboy is also Sabajaq's promoter, having run various parties over the years including Night Train at Egg. He opens the Main Room on Saturday.

What track is getting you in the mood pre-gig?

Beyondadoubt - '9inch Heels' feat Niyi

BEYONDADOUBT - 9inch Heels ft. Niyi from judesays on Vimeo.

Gets me throwing a few shapes in front of the mirror before facing the world!

What's your favourite peak time essential right now?

The Carry Nation - 'As If (Justin Cudmore Remix)'

Batty Bass Records has delivered an absolute acid stomper here.

Which track hasn't left your set this year?

DJ Hell - 'I Want You'

DJ Hell - I Want U (Official Video) from Gigolo Records on Vimeo.

Great new single, album, and video. Hell is on top!

Name an all time classic that you're digging out at the moment?

Zebra Katz - 'Ima Read' feat Njena Reddd Foxxx

A classic for the discerning ear.

Sound of the after party?

Christeene - 'Butt Muscle'

CHRISTEENE - BUTT MUSCLE from PJ Raval on Vimeo.

It takes a special after party to keep my attention!

MAZE & MASTERS

PREFERRED SHOT LOW RES ONLY

Spending last summer in Ibiza with Solid Grooves, Maze & Masters have another busy summer of non-stop gigs planned, recently playing for Bedrock and in New York with The Carry Nation. They close the Main Room on Saturday.

What track is getting you in the mood pre-gig?

Archie Hamilton - 'Telegram'

We see warming up as art, and this tune reminds us of that moment between suspense and action, when people are inspired to step forward from the edge of the dance floor.

What's your favourite peak time essential right now?

Vinicius Honorio - 'Out For Blood'

It's been great to watch Sabajaq and Egg's homeboy Vini get deserved success with his unrelenting Drumcode EP. We can't wait to rep this Saturday closing the main room, because it's all about family.

Which track hasn't left your set this year?

Nicolas Duvoisin, Monica - 'Organic Funk (Artslaves Remix)'

We are suckers for bizarre sounds popping up at random moments, which this track does perfectly, as well as having a heavy AF groove and kick, the kind that makes you switch up from the two step to the stomp.

Name an all time classic that you're digging out at the moment?

DJ Assassin - 'Face In The Crowd (Intellidread Mix)'

Originally from 98, we saw Luciano play this remix, and now it's one of our favourite and rare 'time is right' tunes (which, of course, there has been at Sabajaq), the crowd transcends, minds open.

Sound of the after party?

Amelie Lens – 'Wild'

Discovering Amelie Lens was a beautiful moment, because her sound is, for us, very reminiscent of our first experiences of getting wild in Berlin. And Berlin is the ultimate afterparty. Otherwise, Butch's 'Dope' is always our go-to for untouchable after party levels.

JOE ROBERTS

Joe Roberts

Another Sabajaq resident from the beginning, Joe Roberts is also resident at UK festival Field Maneuvers (as one half of Local Group) and is also one of the DJs at East London parties Uncontrollable Urge and Mouth To Mouth. He closes the Terrace on Saturday.

What track is getting you in the mood pre-gig?

The Cure ' The Walk'

I've been hooked on the euphoric synths in this ever since hearing Scientific Dreamz of U play the Jamal Moss Medussa edit at the last Suspiciously Delicious party.

What's your favourite peak time essential right now?

Dawl – 'Brutal Science'

The resurgence of bleep, electro and rave is right up my street, and everything by Dawl so far has been absolute fire.

Which track hasn't left your set this year?

Bawrut - 'Tano'

Not only is Bawrut one of the nicest guys I've met, I don't think that anybody does acid as emotively and effectively he does. I played this at a day party last Saturday and the floor was instantly rammed.

Name an all time classic that you're digging out at the moment?

Kilk Klak – 'The Time Is Up'

From 1993, this is supposedly considered the first every tech-house record from London's original scene and still bangs like a barn door in a gale.

Sound of the after party?

Yello – 'You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess'

Introduced to me by A boy From Outer Space, who I run the party Mouth To Mouth with alongside Nick Powell, this sums it all up...
