One of Egg’s favourite duos return on Friday 20th February as Fur Coat feature on a stellar DJ Mag Sessions lineup and kick start the weekend in impressive fashion. The word trend-setters is often banded about without real cause but in the case of Fur Coat it is complete justified. With a steady output on Damian Lazarus’ highly respected Crosstown Rebels, the duos productions always delve into the experimental and defy convention. Ahead of the much awaited performance for DJ Mag Ibiza voice caught up with the pair to pick their brains…

“Delete (aka Sergio Munoz) & Israel Sunshine are Fur Coat. Originally from Venezuela, they now operate out of Barcelona and have managed to turn heads in just about every country in the world. It’s all thanks to their fusionist sound of soul, salsa and electronic grooves that is deep and dancey. Landing on labels like Crosstown Rebels, Culprit, Get Physical and My Favourite Robot, the duo have had plenty of landmark releases including “You and I”, “Theres No Time” and many more.

On Friday February 20th, the pair headline at EGG in London for a special DJ Mag party that also features Voyeur, Kerri Chandler and more. It is sure to be a special event and ahead of it we asked the pair about how they met, house music’s motivation, lyrics and much more…

How much is your sound influenced by hot weather? You hail from Venezuela, live in Barcelona - do you need sun to thrive?
I don´t know if the weather has influenced us on our sounds. Definitely moving from country to country you get influenced by many things, from daily experiences, to food, weather, etc. So our evolution of sound has definitely been influenced by living in Barcelona. We probably get darker in winter.

How important has your association with Crosstown been - what have you learnt from it and from Damian?

Crosstown is the label that opened the doors to our project. We really felt a relationship with Crosstown´s and Damian´s work. It´s really a label where we have complete freedom to put out the music we feel. Damian has his ways of seeing things and sometimes we don´t see it all the same, but we get to a point where we understand each other. I think it´s a relationship where everybody can learn, talk and exchange ideas.

You play the DJ Mag Sessions soon - how do you feel about that? Do you still read DJ Mag?

Yes, we are very excited and really looking forward for this party. We read DJ Mag now and then yeah; some interesting stuff comes from it.

What else you got coming up/are you looking forward to?

We have remixes on Watergate for Ruede Hagelstein & on Systematic for Stephan Bodzin. We have an EP coming on Bpitch Control and a mix CD that we will soon give more info on."
