Influences: Wehbba

Ahead of his return to the club for Familia on August 11th, Wehbba celebrates the producers who have influenced his sound...

Wehbba is one of Brazil’s most emblematic electronic producers and has achieved a distinct sonic style which has seen him release on Drumcode, Second State and Bedrock Records to name a few.

The former dentist is renowned for his versatile approach to producing and mixing and has crafted a pummelling, bass-heavy sound, allowing him to work with the likes of Jon Dixon and D’Sean Jones of the legendary Underground Resistance collective amongst others. A busy touring schedule has seen him play in L.A, Vienna, Barcelona, Paris and Berlin this summer but he’s still managed to find some valuable time in the studio and is set to release his latest remix of ‘Spur’ for Gui Boratto [Kompakt] this Friday.

Ahead of his return to the club for Familia on Saturday, August 11th, Wehbba celebrates the producers who have influenced his sound and approach the most since he heard his first kick drum…

Jeff Mills - The Bells

Duh. Best of all techno ever made.

André Lodemann - Where Are You Now?

A modern house music masterpiece that has influenced me in everything I have done since I first heard it. The way it builds up tension and releases with a massive hook is just mind-blowing, and every single sound is incredibly carefully crafted. I still drop it at after parties here and there when I get the chance.

DK8 - Murder was the Bass

Jesper Dahlback’s biggest tune ever, which in itself says a lot. Massive techno weapon that still sounds futuristic and current 15 years after its original release. Took a piece of my brain with it.

Patrik Skoog - Untitled (Desolation - A1)

The first Drumcode record I’ve ever bought, late start I know…but I still love this one, the relentless drive with those splashes of beautiful chords are genius.

Daft Punk - Rollin' and Scratchin'

Pure filth from one of the first albums I ever bought. Always reminds me why I love distortion.

Laurent Garnier - Crispy Bacon

Another essential tune that must have influenced a lot of the techno producers especially from the early 2000s generation, from one of the main masters of the craft.

Jam & Spoon - Stella

This tune has always spoken directly to my soul, the chords, the pad, the groove…it’s been a soundtrack for some amazing moments and has influenced me heavily from my very early days as a producer as well.

Slam - Positive Education

TUNE! From beginning to end, what a trip…this has all the Detroit magic rinsed with UK’s class and sonic mastery.

The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea

This is another tune deeply embedded in my system, everything about it is exciting and inspiring - a big uplifting trip.

Joey Beltram - Energy Flash

One of my favourite producers of all time, on one of my favourite labels of all time. An essential tune that shaped much of my “sonic vocabulary” in electronic music.
