Influences: Watermät

Joining us this Friday, 13th July with the renowned South African duo Goldfish, French producer shares his musical influences with us ahead of the show.

The profile of French producer Watermät has mushroomed since his breakthrough track ‘Bullit’ was signed to Spinnin’ Records back in 2014 and since then, the artist - who’s known as Laurent Arriau off stage - has gone on to tour Korea, France, Ibiza, Germany and the Netherlands to name a few, building up a loyal following along the way. Bouncing between subtle deep house to vocal-led crowd pleasers, the sound of Watermät remains beguiling as ever.

Joining us this Friday, 13th July with the renowned South African duo Goldfish, Watermät shares his musical influences with us ahead of the show, tracing back to Michael Jackson right up to Andhim…

Michael Jackson - Rock With You

This is probably my first proper memories with music, my dad used to play it in the car, it was the perfect blend of disco/funk produced by Quincy Jones, one of the best producers on the planet.

Thomas Bangalter - Colossus

One of the first tracks that really got me into the french-touch house. Just one crazy sample looped for 6 minutes with filters and a tr909 kick. Such a brilliant track, I still play it in my sets sometimes. The track sampled a really famous disco track from Claude François, and it's so subtle and well done, that you don't even recognize it at first.

Demon - You're My High

Another french disco-filtered classic. What makes this one special, except that all the samples are really good, is the way the bass takes place in the mix and brings a constant energy. I used this kind of bass, in my track 'Bullit' for example.

Kolsch - OMA

I also love this kind of track, melodic progressive techno, with big breaks and lots of reverb.

Andhim - Hausch

I heard it in 2013, and it reminds me of the beginning of the french-touch house, with a more organic sound, something really different than the Edm that was everywhere at this time. This sounds really like a breath of fresh air.
