Influences: Ada Kaleh

Joining us on 21st July for R&S Showcase alongside Mariel Ito, Evigt Mörker and Renaat Vandepapeliere, Romanian producer shares five tracks with us which have heavily influenced the sonic journey he’s embarked on...

Describing himself as 'hypnosis, synaesthesia and active meditation’, Ada Kaleh is an alluring artist recently signed to one of the most seminal imprints in existence, R&S Records. The Romanian producer has cropped up on festival and clubs line-ups spanning Serbia to Spain, gradually building a budding profile with his first R&S release ‘Palatul de cleştar’ earning support from Raresh, Barac, tINI, Ricardo Villalobos and lots more.

Ahead of his debut at the club on July 21st alongside R&S cohorts Mariel Ito, Evigt Mörker, Renaat Vandepapeliere and G-Prod, Kaleh shares five tracks with us which have heavily influenced the sonic journey he’s embarked on…

Can - Little star of Bethlehem

Can is one of my favourite bands from the eclectic German school of the '60-70's. People call their sound Kraut-Rock, but that doesn't mean anything unless you delve into their whole spectrum but beware, it's going to take you to some weird places.

Fela Ransome Kuti & The Africa '70 - Confusion

The African groove is lesser known to the wider audience, but if you start exploring, there is a whole multiverse of rhythms and patterns yet to be discovered and Fela is at the forefront of this movement. It's a goldmine for everyone trying to study African percussion and arrangement.

Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile

Jimi is the reason I took up playing "Air Guitar''.

Kaleidoscope - Beacon from Mars

A few years back, while exploring some dark corners of the psychedelic genre, I've stumbled upon these sounds from outer space. These guys manage to blend psychedelic rock with folk and bluegrass like no other. Every time I have trouble blending some sounds from different genres in my compositions, I always think of them. They did it.

Manuel Gottsching - E2-E4

This one-hour session, recorded in the early '80s, is probably one of the most influential compositions in electronic music. I listen to this record every other week, actually, it's my go-to piece whenever I'm travelling.
