Happy St Patrick's Day!

It's St. Patricks Day weekend! The Saint who banished the snakes from Ireland - for those who aren't already aware. But it's also a day to celebrate all things stereotypically Irish and with such an amalgam of Irish talent making waves in the electronic scene at the moment, we caught up with some of our long-running friends from the Emerald Isle to find out what the national holiday means to them...

Laurence Malice [Egg LDN / Trade Founder]

What does St. Patrick’s day mean to you?

It shows the whole world can show so much respect for such a small country, it is a very moving gesture.

What is your favourite Irish song?

Danny Boy - Lisa Hannigan

Donal Mc Carthy [Create live / wright venue / Button Factory]

What does St Patrick’s day mean to you?

It's a celebration of the patron Saint of Ireland that banished snakes from Ireland.

What’s your favourite traditional Irish song and why?

Fiddlers Green by Fiddlers Green

Chymera [Kompakt / Cocoon / Ovum]

What does St Patrick’s day mean to you?

When I was a kid it meant getting a day off school and being able to eat sweets for one day during Lent. When I was a bit older it meant navigating hoards of zombies in the streets fighting and puking everywhere. Since I left Ireland in 2006 it means a way to celebrate Irishness in (usually) more civil surroundings. This year I'm looking forward to playing an all-Irish shindig here in Berlin.

What’s your favourite traditional Irish song and why?

I don't really know any traditional Irish songs by name, so I'm struggling to think of an answer for this. If we expand it to just "Irish" I'd pick The Theme from Harry's Game by Clannad. Epic vocals and synths.

Colin Perkins [Pygmalion Resident]

What does St. Patrick’s day mean to you?

St Patrick's Day for me has become intertwined with Pygmalion's birthday weekend. This weekend we've got Âme, Detroit Swindle and Culture Shock across 3 nights, they're usually the wildest nights of the year. Bar staff don't get the credit they deserve!

What’s your favourite traditional Irish song and why?

The Dubliners - Rocky Road to Dublin lol

Niamh O’Connor [Egg LDN Bookings / PR]

What does St. Patrick’s day mean to you?

The last Paddy’s day I properly had was in Dublin in 2016 and it really illustrated the true meaning of the St. Patricks Day: mouldy tunes in a decrepit house in Portobello, crumpled beer tins, damp couches, damp floor, people shouting, shamrocks, loads of green things, more crumpled tins on the floor.

What’s your favourite traditional Irish song and why?

Let Christy Take It by Sunil Sharpe is basically a traditional Irish tune at this point.
