Get to know: Deniz Bul

Before he became a regular fixture and affiliate of FCKNG SERIOUS, Deniz Bul was loyal fan of Boris Brejcha but the two never actually met face to face. Bul sent a casual message to Brejcha via Youtube, asking to meet the High Tech Minimal creator to discuss a possible collaboration and since then, the pair have never looked back.

Now a mainstay on the FCKNG SERIOUS platform, the Germany based producer finished out 2017 with the well-received ‘This Is It’ - a three track EP of high octane, progressive house melodies combined with electro basslines. With a wealth of experience running his own parties before joining the FCKNG SERIOUS team, Bul continues to spread his sound throughout Europe covering terrain from Beirut, Switzerland, France and lots more.

Ahead of his return to the club Saturday, 17th March we caught up with Bul to find out more about his early beginnings in electronic music and what’s on the horizon for 2018…

Looking back at your time organizing parties and working with clubs in neighbouring countries, what did you learn from this experience and how did it shape your attitude in the music industry?

Back in the day, I learned that it’s fun to organize your own parties with people you like and having fun with them, but there’s also a lot of work behind it. You have to manage the location, the marketing for the party, the drinks and the permissions etc.

And how does it shape does the music industry? It’s still a lot of work - sometimes different, sometimes close to what I did in the past. But looking back, these were my first footsteps to get in touch with the music industry. How did the musical relationship between yourself and Boris come about? I wrote Boris a message on Youtube. He answered and we decided to have a coffee and talk about music and life. Since that day, we’ve been doing music together and we’re still close friends.

You recently built a new studio, what are the key pieces you have in there at the moment?

Yes, that’s right. I changed my home and got a new studio now. I’m really happy about it. The acoustics are even better compared my old studio. That was one of the most important things for me. So the key pieces in my studio are definitely my acoustic panels and my new iMac because, until today, I’m only producing with software synthesizers (but I want to use hardware in the near future too).

According to your Facebook bio, you’re influenced by ‘life’. Is there a particular event from your life so far that’s resonated with you which you have musically portrayed through your tracks?

I would not say there is just one specific event in my life that influenced me still today daily. What I mean when I say 'Influenced by life’ is that you had good days and not so good days. Different adventures. These adventures created you because they influenced you. And producing music is a chance to express yourself and process the past.

What’s the year ahead looking like? Any upcoming releases we should look out for?

I’m very looking forward to this year. A lot of good parties are planned all around the world. New releases are coming this year too. I worked a lot the last few months in the studio both alone and with some other producers too. They will be released on FCKNG SERIOUS. So if you wanna dance, stay curious about my upcoming EP’s and keep in mind - THE WORLD NEEDS MORE TECHNO!
