Four To The Floor: Christian Smith

The Egg birthday headliner talks his top tech tracks

Tronic boss Christian Smith has been a ripping up the techno purist's manual (given away free with every 909) for a decade now. Swedish, but relocated to Sao Paulo, his energetic sets slide fluidly from grooving tech-house to hard as nail techno, equally liable to venture into hands-in-the-air euphoria or stripped down minimalism. It's a crowd reading and pleasing skill that means he's on constant global rotation, playing everywhere from Tokyo to Ibiza.

It also made him a surefire booking for the Egg birthday on Saturday May 7th, where he joins other techno titans Anna, Gary Beck, Harvey McKay and Cari Lekebusch alongside the best in house and disco from Discodromo, Feelings DJs, Hector Couto and more. Click here for full info and tickets.

In anticipation of his appearance, Smith gave us a peek into four of the tunes doing it for him right now...

Noir - 'Bataille'

“Even though this just got released, I have been playing it for a few months and it always rocks the house. What I like about this track is that it's very different and original. The floors go wild.”

Christian Smith - 'Human Machine'

“This remastered version sounds really phat. The track is minimal and groovy. I sampled an old sci-fi movie from the '70s for the voice in the break.”

Ian Pooley - 'Celtic Cross (Len Faki Remix)'

“I was a big fan of this original track when it came out in the late '90s. This time it got an updated remix from Len Faki. He stayed true to the original while giving it his trademark rave hammer production style! Effective, powerful, and jacking!”

Carl Craig - 'At Les (Christian Smith Hypnotica Remix)'

“This is arguably one of the best remixes I have done to date. It was an honour to remix this monster classic, and even more amazing that many DJs including Richie Hawtin are still playing my remix.”
